Phone Spoofing

Phone Number Spoofing

What exactly is spoofing?

Caller ID spoofing occurs when a caller alters the information sent to your caller ID display to disguise their identity. This has been an ongoing issue recently and is a fraudsters attempt to trick someone into giving away personal information to use for illegal activities.

What can you do if you think you’re being spoofed?

You may not be able to tell at first that you are being spoofed. Be aware of what the person on the other end of the call is asking from you.

  • Never give out personal information such as banking account numbers, Social Security, passwords, or any other identifying information.
  • If you receive a call from someone that claims they represent a company or government agency, hang up and call the “claimed company’s” phone number to verify the call and request of information.
  • Use caution if you are being pressured to share information.

As a reminder, Pioneer Bank will never request your confidential information through phone, email or any social media platform, such as Facebook, LinkedIn or Instagram. Never give out or send any account information, through social media --- not even to us, even if it is in a private message.

Contact our Customer Care Center at 518.730.3000 immediately to verify any phone, email requests or social media activity where your confidential information is being requested.
