Opening marked by $2,000 in donations to local group ‘Kids Count’ and the Watervliet Senior Center
August 11, 2017
WATERVLIET, NY – Leaders of Pioneer Bank and Stewart’s Shops were joined today by local business and community leaders and City of Watervliet officials to celebrate the Grand Opening of a brand new, joint location for both businesses that will serve the residents of Watervliet.
To mark the grand opening and commitment to the community, Pioneer and Stewart’s Shops joined together to present donations of $1,000 each to local groups “Kids Count” and the Watervliet Senior Center. “Kids Count” is an accredited non-profit organization in the city that raises funds to enhance the lives of children through recreational, cultural, and educational programs in Watervliet and the Capital Region.
The new building on Second Avenue features a 2,500 square-foot banking center featuring Pioneer’s updated branch design and latest banking technology. Amenities include an Interactive Teller Machine, a convenience that allows customers to complete transactions traditionally done in a branch after normal branch hours. The branch will also have a safe deposit box vault. The new banking center is near Pioneer’s former Watervliet branch, which remained open during construction.
The adjacent 3,000 square-foot Stewart’s Shop features eight fueling points, freshly made pizza, made-to-order subs, a new beverage bar including fountain soda, a walk-in cooler called a beer cave, plus all the traditional Stewart’s products and services. The new Watervliet store represents just one of many significant investments Stewart’s Shops will be making in 2017 to improve the customer’s shopping experience, as well as expanding food and beverage options.
“Our Watervliet branch is among our oldest, having opened in 1972, and I’m tremendously pleased to be able to serve our customers even better with this state-of-the-art banking center,” said Tom Amell, President and CEO of Pioneer Bank. “What’s more, our location directly adjacent to Stewart’s is going to make it even easier for our customers to do their banking and shopping. It’s one more way we are focusing on improving the customer experience at Pioneer Bank.”
“This is an extraordinary opportunity to jointly provide even better service to customers of both Stewart’s Shops and Pioneer Bank,” said Bill Dake, Stewart’s Shops Chairman of the Board. “One-stop banking and shopping truly meets the needs of our customers’ busy lifestyles.”
“This is an extremely exciting project for the city and it’s in an ideal location. We are impressed at the design and speed at which this construction project was completed," said Watervliet Mayor Mike Manning. “I’d also like to salute Pioneer Bank and Stewart’s Shops for being great community partners with their donations to Kids Count and the Senior Center. Those big checks are going directly towards doing good in the City of Watervliet.”
As part of the grand opening’s festivities, Stewarts offered 10 cents off a gallon of gas, as well as free scoops of ice cream and free coffee all day. Pioneer visitors were also able to enter a contest to win an Amazon Echo.
Pioneer Bank also recently opened its first branch in Warren County in the Town of Queensbury, on June 8. The new branches highlight Pioneer Bank’s emphasis on providing a superior in-branch experience for customers, as well as a broadening of the banks geographic footprint and brings Pioneer’s total number of branches to 22.
