We're Partnering With Stewart’s Shops to Refresh Our Watervliet Branch
All-new building will replace our existing Pioneer branch on 2nd Avenue that originally opened in 1972
Our plans to construct a new building in downtown Watervliet were released today. We've partnered with Stewart's Shops to operate side-by-side with their newest location. Upon planning board approval, the new, 2,500-square-foot banking center and 3,000-square-foot Stewart’s Shop will be located on Second Avenue, near the existing Pioneer Bank branch at that location, which will be replaced.
The new Pioneer Bank Branch will keep with the look and feel of the bank’s recently updated branch design, with cutting-edge features and customer amenities. Stewart’s Shops has another location in the city, but this new store will offer fuel service. Stewart’s Shops purchased the property in question from us, and the existing Pioneer Bank branch will remain open during construction, ensuring that there is uninterrupted service for our customers. A groundbreaking on the project is anticipated for April, with an opening projected for the summer of 2016.
“We’re pleased to be bringing these updated facilities to our customers in Watervliet and across the Capital Region, and to be partnering with Stewart’s Shops to introduce more services to this busy intersection,” said Pioneer Bank President and CEO Tom Amell. “We’ve made a conscious effort to invest in the customer experience to make banking with us easier than ever. This entirely new branch facility will serve Watervliet for years to come. As we continue to grow across the Capital Region, it’s initiatives like this one that will offer our customers the best day-to-day experience with Pioneer Bank possible, as well as engage our employees in a world-class working environment.”
“We’re thrilled with the opportunity to purchase this property and partner with Pioneer bank on such an exciting project that will allow both of our businesses to serve customers even better. In particular, this site enables us to provide much-needed fuel service to this area of the city,” said Stewart’s Shops President Gary Dake.
“Pioneer Bank and Stewart’s Shops are both cornerstones of our downtown corridor, and I greatly look forward to seeing them operating under the same roof. This joint investment is great news for our city and its residents," said Watervliet Mayor Mike Manning. "I'm excited to see the new storefront, and to continue to count on both of these local companies as a valued members of our business community."
Interactive Teller Machine (ITM) technology was introduced in our new Schenectady branch recently. The ITM functions much like an Automated Teller Machine, but allows customers to videoconference with a remote Pioneer Bank teller. Customers are able to complete most transactions and services available at a physical teller station, including making loan payments, deposits/withdrawals or making account transfers.
In addition to eight fueling stations, the planned Stewart’s shop will feature a large counter area with plenty of seating, a Beer Cave, pizza made fresh at the shop and made-to-order subs. The new Watervliet store represents just one of many significant investments Stewart’s Shops will be making in 2016 to help meet the growing needs of its customers. There is a focus on improved flow inside and outside their shops, as well as the expansion of food service. People are looking for easy food options throughout the day that fit into their busy lifestyles and changing eating habits.
There is no immediate plan to close any other Stewart’s Shops properties in Watervliet, and they will continue to provide an important service to the neighborhoods where they are located.
Our next branch will be located at our new headquarters, on Albany-Shaker Road in Colonie, which is presently under construction. The new headquarters will also be home to a drive-up ITM.
